Amaretto
Overview
Amaretto is a software connection to the NVIDIA Gelato renderer for Autodesk 3ds max. It is being developed by Frantic Films Software in collaboration with the Frantic Films' Lighting and Rendering department, Frantic Films' 3D Effects department and with the kind support of the NVIDIA corporation. Uniting two powerful VFX software tools, Amaretto is the 3ds Max interface for NVIDIA's Gelato renderer. Serving as a software bridge between the two programs, Amaretto combines the strengths of both tools in a seamlessly integrated and highly customizable system. Amaretto allows users to select Gelato within 3ds Max to render existing scenes, or access Gelato's extensive feature set – such as fast sub-pixel displacement, analytical subdivision surfaces and a shader programming language – to enhance the quality of their artistic output. With Amaretto's hybrid C++/ MAXScript design, artists and technical directors have an abstraction layer that enables them to quickly adapt the software to their needs or add features on the fly. Currently distributed by NVIDIA and bundled with Gelato, Amaretto gives VFX professionals confident interoperability – and the best of two worlds.
